The theme of the season continued on Friday on the 2.238 twisting WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Circuit. Oliver Askew and Rinus VeeKay led the way. Askew in Practice and VeeKay during qualifying.

Rinus VeeKay - Pole Position Laguna Seca

The Indy Lights session took place before the NTT IndyCars took to the track for their first session and qualification was held just after the NTT IndyCar Warmup and the track changed a bit with regard to the handling. This appeared to impact the Andretti Autosport drivers more than VeeKay and the Juncos Racing Team.

It was a difficult session for us for sure. I was surprised on how much the track changed, so we will definitely debrief and look at the data and hope for a better run in the morning. It looks like will be starting third now so that?s not too bad here.

According to VeeKay, it might not have been the track that caused the pole run. It might have been his good luck charm Sister that is attending the race.

Whatever the reason, Rinus showed that even with the championship out of reach that he is still digging this weekend.

Toby Sowery of HMD Motorsports will start alongside in the 2nd position. Askew 3rd, Robert Megennis 4th and Dalton Kellett rounding out the top 5. Kellett spun in the session and his fastest lap was disallowed.

Qualifying was so-so. We?re starting P4, which isn?t bad, but there was a lot more in the car. I think we made a lot of bad choices with the set up and I think we got to the peak of the tire. Then Dalton [Kellett] spun and ruined everyone else?s qualifying session. So we will show up tomorrow and be better in the morning.

Robert Megennis

Saturday will see qualifying for race 2 and Race 1 will be held at 6:10 pm Eastern.
